ULTIMATE TOUR OF NORTH INDIA

Delhi – Agra – Rishikesh – Varanasi

North India has a lot of important tourism elements. Due to various factors, most of the tourists end their tour by enjoying just a few places. This is an itinerary to help you plan your trip of Delhi, Agra, Rishikesh and Varanasi in six days.

Day 1

Delhi

Delhi has an international airport that connects many important countries in the world. Once you enter Delhi, you can choose any mode of transportations like cab, rail or bus to reach your accommodation. There are many small and budget sized hotels and also many luxurious hotels for staying. If you are looking for luxurious hotels; Oberoi, Taj Palace, The Maurya, Leela Palace, ITC Grand, Dusit Devarana and many other top hotels can be found in this city.

Red fort is a 17th century fort built by Mughals. The fort extends to 2 km and is a wonderful sight to watch. Entree fee is 250 rupees for foreigners and 10 for Indians. It is closed on Mondays. Right opposite to the fort, you can find Chandni Chowk. It is an old street of the city which is filled with markets, shops and other bazaars.

The next stop should be the Jama Masjid. It is a mosque that was built in 17th century. It took 13 years to complete this mosque and it has a stunning architecture.

Day 2

Swaminarayan Akshardham is a temple complex that showcases the cultural history and wealth of the country. There are a lot of sculptures, garden and also boating facilities here. It would take about half a day to complete the whole tour.

Humayun’s tomb would look a little similar to Taj Mahal. It is a 16th century tomb that stands as the first Mughal styled architecture in India. It is best to watch the garden during late afternoon.

Day 3

Start a new day by visiting the famous Qutub Minar. It is the tallest minaret in the world. It is built in the style of Indo- Islamic architecture. It has five stories, wonderful architectural elements and other attractions. After Qutub Minar, you can start to Agra on a rental car.

To Agra

Agra is connected with New Delhi through the New Yamuna Expressway. The drive time would be around 4 to 5 hours depending on the traffic. With this new expressway, Agra is just 165 km away from Delhi. There are a lot of rental car services with wi-fi facilities and others. Once you enter Agra, Taj Mahal is just 20 km away from Yamuna Expressway.

Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders in the world. It was built by Shah Jahan for Mumtaz Mahal, his wife; upon her death. It is a mausoleum is made out of marbles and has a great architectural structure. The Taj museum inside it has various artefacts like handwritten blueprint of Taj Mahal, vessel that changes colour when served poison and so on. It would take about 2 to 3 hours to completely enjoy the monument and start for the next destination, Rishikesh.

Day 4

To Rishikesh

If you are taking the Yamuna Expressway, it would take about 7 and a half hour to reach Rishikesh. It is about 410 km away from Agra. The easiest and fastest way to Rishikesh is through bus.  Once you reach Rishikesh, you can visit many temples and also the River Ganges. But, the most important element of this place is the adventure activities. The top adventure activity is river rafting. You can raft through the Ganges for 10 km. There are different trails based on your experience and other factors. There are various rafting packages based on where you want to start and end too.

Day 5

You can end the trip in Rishikesh by a visit to ashrams for yoga and meditation. Top ashrams are Sivananda Ashram, Swami Dayananda Ashram, Parmarth Niketan, Yoga Nikethan and so on. You can attend yoga session or meditation classes from experts here. It is best to visit Ashram early in the morning and then start to Varanasi with Rajasthan tour by late afternoon.

To Varanasi

Rishikesh and Varanasi are not connected through direct flight, train or bus. Thus, again it is better to opt for rental car services. It is about 800 km away from Varanasi. It takes around 15 hours to reach.

Day 6

Dashashwmedha Ghat is the top ghat in River Ganges that you ought to visit very early in the morning to witness any special ritual happenings. The next stop is Kashi Vishwanath Mandir which is located on the banks of the river. There are a lot of other temples nearby to watch and spend the morning and late afternoon. By evening, you can enjoy Tulsi Ghat and the Ramnagar Fort. There is a museum inside it.
