Roadside Safety Tips While Waiting To Be Towed

Car with a breakdown

If you ever experience car trouble and there’s no immediate help available, you might need to call a towing company. Thus, it is best that you have in your contacts list the number of a reliable towing company in case your vehicle breaks down.

Towing companies can help you in towing your vehicle and provide onsite mechanical services as well. However, accept the fact that you may have to wait while waiting for help to come. During this time, there’s some sense of vulnerability especially when you are left on your own with a malfunctioned vehicle. If you have already called your trusted towing company, read further for some tips to keep yourself safe until help arrives.

Drive your Car in a Safe Place

If possible, drive your car away from moving traffic and as far as possible onto the road’s shoulder. If you are in a highway, it is very dangerous for cars to be parked right in the middle of the road. Stay inside your car if you were able to move it on the shoulder. Otherwise, move away from your car. Check if your car is locked before leaving it.

Turn on the Lights

If driving is not possible, put an early warning device and turn on your car’s hazard lights to warn incoming cars about your status. All vehicles are equipped with an emergency kit. Use them to let other people know that something is wrong.

Keep your Valuables and have your Mobile Phone Ready

Gather all your valuables and keep it within your reach. At the same time, alert your loved ones where you are. You may also want to alert the police in case you find yourself stranded in an unsafe location.

Do not Attempt to Repair your Car

If you do not know how to handle a broken car, then don’t even attempt to do something about your situation right at that moment. The towing company may take some time to arrive but it is safer and better for you to leave its condition right when your car broke down. Aside from driving it to the shoulder, do not do anything else to the car.

Regardless of whether you were involved in an accident or your car simply stopped running for reasons unknown to you, knowing how to stay safe while waiting for the tow truck to arrive can prevent a bad day from becoming even worse.
