How Hard It Is To Build A Football (Soccer) Court For You And Your Friends?

Some Safety Tips About Driving Large Trucks

Football represents one of the most popular sports in the entire world. Whenever there’s a world cup, there will be people tuning in to the live streams of the games in every path of the Earth.

Whether it’s beer-guzzling Germans sitting around their hearth and cheering their Panzers on, vodka-drinking Poles who cheer their white ‘n’ reds on (but mostly actually hope Germans won’t win), or tipsy Russians with their pet bears merrily gathered around a log fire somewhere in Siberia, football has the power to connect people and create feuding frenemies for decades at a time!

The beauty of football is its simplicity.

As long as you’ve got a functioning ball and possibly a couple of bricks to model the goal posts, you can bring your friends outside and have yourselves a game whenever you like!

If you’d like to take the whole experience up a notch, however, you might want to invest some money and effort to actually build your very own football field for you and your mates.

Now, the question that inevitably asserts itself with this scenario is – How Difficult Would It Be To Actually Build Your Own Football Court?

Well, in this article, we’re going to answer it for you!

Without further ado, here’s the deal.

The Steps Towards DIY-ing The Whole Thing

While replicating a proper football pitch to a T may represent a bit of a challenge, concocting a functioning game court complete with goals and the white lines you and your friends can enjoy is not at all impossible, even if you don’t have any previous experience in building football fields!

Here’s how to make your own version of such a playing field.

Figure Out the Soil Composition

Since football pitch should be covered with neatly-trimmed grass, ensuring that the patch of land you’ve designated for building your court has high-quality soil would be the first step in this process.

Make no mistake, the grass is also a plant and it will demand watering and nutritious soil composition for it to grow well. (If you’re opting for a fake grass kind of deal, then you don’t need to worry about this that much.)

To evaluate the state of the soil you’re planning to use, send it over to your local agriculture center for analysis and come up with the ways to enhance its quality if required! (You can use fertilizer or adjust the levels of clay and sand in the soil to create the optimal conditions for grass to grow in.)

Measure the Borders of the Court

According to the standard measurements used in professional football, a football field must always be rectangular in shape. Its length may go from 90 to 120 meters and its width anywhere from 45 meters to 90 meters. (Of course, you can’t build it so that it ends up 90 x 90 – which would make a square. So, if you’re looking at the minimal length of 90 meters, go for a smaller width of 45 to 50 meters.)

Generally, the dimensions of a football pitch depend on the number of players, so make sure to take into account how many of you your friends will join you for a game!

Draw the White Lines Using a Wheeled System

Once you’ve figured out the dimensions of your court, this part should be a piece of cake.

All you need is some white paint and a wheeled painting contraption. Before you start wheelin’ it around, make sure to carefully mark your path beforehand, so that you’re always following a straight line.

Also, the rule for borderlines says that no borderline should exceed 12 cm in width, so pick one of those small painting wheelbarrows with wheels that fit that number.

Stick The Soccer Goals into The Ground

As a grand finale, install your sturdy soccer goals (or, indeed, football goals – however, you wish to call them) into the ground!

Mind though, that you might require some help from your friends, as the goalposts tend to be large and heavy. (Also, fitting the net all on your own can take ages.)

So, there you have it, folks! Making your own football pitch isn’t reserved only for the rich and famous – you can build one yourself with a relatively small budget and some help from your friends. Definitely doable!
