When it comes to studying, everyone faces their own struggles. Some may not get enough time; others may find the work too difficult. However, the main problem that students have is the level of motivation required to study well. This can result in missed deadlines, falling grades, and end in you beating yourself up.
In order to help out demotivated students, below are a few tips. These would hopefully motivate you to study harder and better:
1. Have A Nice Place To Study
If your room or desk is untidy, you probably won’t feel like sitting down and hitting the books. Plus, if there’s a lot of noise, getting started could be a pain.
Hence, it is recommended that you spend some time in carving out a good place for studies. Tidy up your surroundings, put on your headphones, and organize your books. Alternatively, you could also consider going to a library. The environment there is especially conducive to studying, which may just be the motivation you need. If a library is too quiet and the dorm is too noisy, you should consider a nice café.
Ideally, you should seek out a study place that would keep you away from the noise and any friends who could disturb you. Make sure it’s comfortable and spacious enough for all your studying needs as well. This could be all the dissertation help you need if you’re a grad student.
2. Get All The Supplies
Interrupting your studies makes it very hard to get motivated again. Additionally, if you don’t have all the supplies you need, it can be very easy to make excuses. So don’t let yourself slack off on any pretext. Get your pens papers, highlighters, books and notes all in one convenient place.
If you’re going to a library or out of your residence to study, keep everything in one bag. Keep in mind that you need everything on hand in order to prevent getting up and losing that precious motivation.
3. Fuel Yourself
When you’re studying, your brain is using up a lot of insulin. Plus, you’re likely to get drained and dehydrated while swotting it up. Having a steady supply of water would work wonders in keeping you healthy and hydrated while attacking your books.
Additionally, some snacks would also come in handy. Have some granola bars, fruit, veggies, or buts on hand. This would again prevent you from getting up on the pretext of getting something to eat. Be sure to stay away from too much candy or junk food, however. These may stave off your hunger for a bit but would exhaust your body in the long run.
4. Remove All Distractions
Needless to say, we tend to get more distracted when it’s time to study. Everything and anything seem fascinating than our waiting books and notes. Hence, we should actively distance ourselves from all kinds of distractions when we have an exam, test, or thesis deadline coming up.
The first step should be to stay away from your cell phone. Put it on charge at the other end of the room. Turn it off or put it on vibrate if that’s possible. If you’ve got an important message or call coming, though, simply distancing yourself may be enough.
Another major distraction is the Internet. You may need it for studying and researching, though. When you’re done with that, however, try turning off the router. This way, it would be a pain to get it up and turn it on just to waste time online.
Social media sites can be a huge drain of your time, so it’s best to avoid them completely. Some students even make the wise decision of deactivating their accounts during exam time altogether.
A little bit of willpower and effort goes a long way when it’s time to study. In a sense, this time is a great way to prepare yourself for adulthood. Excuses may work now, but these bad habits would make your future much more difficult. So start training yourself today, and reap the benefits tomorrow!
