4 Office Wellness Secrets for Busy Workaholics

The freedom and flexibility that comes with working in an office are certainly to be desired. The potential for income and the security of a job are all things that work to your advantage as well. At the same time, office work can cause you to become sedentary. Sitting at a desk for long periods of time in a stretch can take their tool. It is important to not only move around but to engage in some wellness activities that help you from both a nutritional and physical perspective. To help you with this, we have put together the following four office wellness secrets for busy workaholics that should benefit you.

Develop a Lunch Break Workout Routine

Many people working in an office either eat their lunch at their desk or in the break room. That is fine, but carve out some time for a bit of exercise as well. If you do not have time to get outside, consider doing some sit-ups right there by your desk. You can also do some push-ups and various other activities depending on the layout of your office. If you share space and don’t have a private office you can still be active. Walking around the office will help as well. Use stairs throughout the day and try using a standing desk.

Stash Some Healthy Food around the Office

Most office buildings have too many temptations lurking about when it comes to unhealthy food. You want to avoid those temptations by having a stash of healthy food, such as almonds, seaweed crisps, tuna pouches, jerky, hummus packs and  hemp protein powder, always within reach.  You can use an USB blender to make yourself breakfast smoothies at the office instead of going through a drive-thru. When the urge to eat hits you, there is no need to turn to junk food. Just reach for one of the healthy snacks that you have nearby.

Track Your Water Consumption

As you work in the office, you may not feel the need to drink water. The feeling of thirst may actually come on too late to do anything about it. At the same time, you know that you need to consume at least eight glasses a day. Use a water tracker to help you reach that goal.

Use Phone Conversations as an Opportunity to Walk

Mobile phones are great. You can use them to move around the office and talk to colleagues or clients when you need to. You can also use this as an opportunity to get out of the office and walk around the complex while still conducting important business. If your office has free soda and coffee they may become a temptation. Tell yourself you can indulge one cup of sugary drink after you reach your water goal for the day.

These four secrets can help keep you in your efforts to stay active and will move you along in your efforts towards eating well. When working in an office, it is important to plan ahead. Staying healthy does not necessarily take a great deal of work, but it does require discipline. Implementing these four secrets will push you along that path in a positive direction.
