Depression is a psychological condition in which a person feels physically and emotionally overwhelmed with a certain sense of hopelessness for an extended period of time. Contrary to the beliefs of some, depression affects every single person at different times in their life no matter how they live or where they live.
A clear state of mind and sense of peace will allow a person to walk through the darkness when the world becomes drab and barren. But only when a person “stops” and listens to the truth and yearnings of oneself can they make this journey with a heart of hope.

Listed below are ten ways to stop depression.

Stop Asking Questions

Stop overwhelming yourself over why unfortunate things happen to you or anybody else. Some things are the way they are and that’s just that. In time, the answers to questions of why certain things happen in life will come to you without the need of contemplation.

Stop Being So Serious

Stop moping around complaining about things and play a game (video game, board game, some kind of game). Play a game even if you’re not in the mood. After playing a game, you should then watch a funny movie or some kind of comedy so you can sit back, smile, and relax.

After doing all this you should go in the mirror, look at yourself, and then laugh. If anyone asks what you’re laughing at, tell them “Life, because it’s just so funny.”

Stop Punishing Yourself

Stop telling yourself “no” once in a while and go out and buy yourself a gift to celebrate the life you lived so far, no matter how good or bad your life has been. Be reasonable though. Don’t buy something you cannot afford or something that is not good for you now or in the long-term.

After buying yourself a gift, you should immediately go eat your favorite food and dessert as soon as possible. With this you should also be reasonable, and buy food and drink that you can eat and feel good about now and in the future.

Stop Waiting On Things

Stop waiting on something great and miraculous to happen. If you are waiting on something to happen and it is bothering you, tell yourself to forget about it. If something is going to happen no matter what you do, then don’t worry about it. As of now, it is no longer your problem.

Stop Looking For Help

Stop looking for help because you are going to help yourself. You are self-sufficient no matter what anyone thinks of you, including yourself. If someone offers to help though, you should take their help or advice especially if the person is genuine.

Although, truthfully only you have the answers to your own problems. From now on, take full responsibility for all of your decisions and actions. And don’t lie to yourself. Trust yourself enough to tell yourself the truth.

Stop Thinking You Are Alone

Stop thinking you are the only person in the world who has problems in their life. Everyone has problems. Search online and most certainly you will find someone else who had or have the very same problems as you.

Think about others who are less fortunate than you and how they too have to rough it out in a confusing world. You need to stop thinking of yourself as a victim or as unlucky because life is a rollercoaster full of ups and downs. And most certainly, things in this life happen for a reason.

Stop Being Happy

Stop looking or waiting to be happy in your life. No one is happy everyday and if they were, something must seriously be wrong with them. Decide whether the troubles bothering you are “needs” or “wants”. If it makes you happy for a little while, it’s most likely a “want”. On the other hand, if it makes you feel as if you can’t or don’t want to live without it, it is certainly a “need”. Let go of the “wants” for now and focus on getting and holding on to the “needs”.

My dad once told me, “Finding happiness is a good thing, but even more important is finding peace within yourself.”

Stop Doubting Yourself

Stop pointing a finger at yourself for the reasons things happen a certain way. Everything is not in your control, so stop blaming yourself for things you have no control over. Rather, remember the goals you have accomplished and things about yourself that you are proud of.

Stop Expecting Things

Stop expecting every little thing to go the way you envisioned it in your head. Life doesn’t work that way. The best things in life are the ones that are most unexpected.

You should know that expectations can lead to disappointment, especially unreasonable expectations.

Stop Being Depressed

Stop telling yourself that you are depressed. Your mind is especially powerful and you do listen and actually do what your mind tells you to do, even when you don’t think you are. Though, you should still admit to yourself that you are going through a tough time.

So be sure to tell yourself that you are working on getting better at dealing with certain issues and that you will be more optimistic.

Some additional steps to stop depression include eating healthy, taking vitamins and minerals, exercising regularly, spending time with your friends and family, and talking with a trained professional (if necessary).

It is very important to take charge of your life and gain confidence in yourself. Even more important is that you accept the challenges of this world. No matter how much help or advice you receive, remember that your life will be only as enjoyable as you make it.

So…STOP BEING DEPRESSED!!! 🙂
